Feb. 18--Marian Anderson Elementary School could be closed as soon as the fall, while Alice Birney Elementary, Kit Carson Middle and American Legion High schools could be closed the following two years under proposals brought to the Sacramento City Unified School District board on Thursday.
District officials revealed the most detailed proposals yet in a months-long effort to determine how to develop new high school programs with limited bond money and address declining population at the elementary level. With the vacant campuses and unoccupied land, the proposals also call for creating three new high schools, opening a school for students with disabilities and building a theater for Kennedy High School. The school board is scheduled to vote Thursday on the matter.
