Byline: Joe Rossiter
Feb. 18--By day, Albert Berteel was an unassuming plumber who repaired annoying problems like leaky faucets or clogged pipes.
The evenings, however, were a different matter for the community theater actor.
Onstage, he was a star, appearing in roles as diverse as the eccentric Captain Queeg in "The Caine Mutiny" and Oscar Madison, the disheveled half of "The Odd Couple."
"He was an extrovert who loved being around people, so he was a natural on stage," said Allen Wilcox, his son-in-law. "He had a wonderful knack for acting because he was so good at expressing himself."
Mr. Berteel, a Grosse Pointe Farms resident, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at Bon Secours Cottage in Grosse Pointe Farms. He was 88.
Mr. Berteel's acting career spanned nearly four decades. He appeared in more than 60 stage productions, mainly with the Grosse Pointe Theatre.
