For WRC driver Marcus Gronholm, winter driving's scariest moment came in the 2003 Monte Carlo Rally:
"It was January-a crazy event where you often find yourself on wrong tires for the conditions. Heading into the Col de Bleine, high up on the twisty asphalt roads of the French Alps, I had chosen hard-compound slicks. For the stages before-on dry asphalt-I had made a tire choice I thought was too soft: The rubber was heating up, so the tires and therefore our Peugeot 206 WRC was moving around.
