The end of winter is still several weeks away, so there remains plenty of time to use that snow shovel. Don't put away the jackets, gloves, hats, boots and scarves just yet.
Winter's bitter cold ushers in a whole new set of challenges for drivers, and taking the time to make sure your car is ready for Jack Frost could prevent you and your ride from being caught out in the elements.
* Do you need a tuneup? It's always best to ensure the spark plugs, wires and distributor are firing properly because if not, the cold weather will surely let you know.
* Make sure the cooling system is fresh and has been recently flushed. Doing so will keep the heating system at full capacity.
* Check the battery. Make sure the terminals are clean and will hold a charge. A bad battery might work well enough when it's warm, but in the cold it could leave you stranded.
* Do the defroster and heater work well? Don't wait for a frost-covered car in the morning to clue you in.
