Feb. 14--In what promises to be a marathon meeting, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board will tackle hot topics related to new schools, crowding and student assignment:

-- Administrators recommend that some of next year's sixth-graders at crowded Alexander Middle in Huntersville be housed at nearby Blythe Elementary, which will see enrollment drop when a new northern elementary school opens in August.

-- The board will vote on turning Marie G. Davis Middle into a military magnet school for grades 6-12. In 2000, voters approved bond money to replace the school in south-central Charlotte. Since then test scores and enrollment…
