Will someone please partner with Prodrive on the P2 (News, Jan. 30)? Where is the downside to this? A WRX engine tweaked to make 350 hp per ton. A WRC-developed anti-lag turbo that translates to a 0-to-60 in the threes. All-wheel drive. Prodrive chassis. Modern sports car styling. I mean, isn't this what we've secretly wanted all along, a WRX with looks? It's the best of both worlds.
Like everyone else I had convinced myself the WRX shape was an integral part of its sleeper charm-an action hero in the body of a sidekick. But the Peter "McLaren F1'' Stevens-designed P2 has shown me the error of my ways. Put it next to the WRX, and I'll take the P2 every time. Who wouldn't? That's why we need the P2 prontissimo. Someone needs to make this happen.
Okay, sure, right-there are costs and overhead and profit margins to think about. And safety and service issues, and emissions regulations, too. But other than these hiccups, what else is there?
