HOFFMAN ESTATES, ILL. -- Doing more with less has been the mantra of Sears Holdings' chairman Edward Lampert since taking over the ailing chain and merging it with Sears. And now that mandate is being applied at store level as Kmart beans adjusting associate positions and reallocating labor at its more than 1,450 locations.

The company announced to its employees early this year that, "After a thorough review of the Kmart store organization we would begin adjusting staffing levels at each store," said Sears Holdings spokesman, Chris Braithwaite.
