TSN: You were born and raised in Seattle and live just a couple of hours away now, independent of professional care, on Lake Wenatchee. Seahawks fan?
UTLEY: From 1976 up until 1989, until another team chose me to work for them. But I'm still a big Seahawks fan.
TSN: How much football did you watch this season?
UTLEY: Every week, in some form or fashion, I'm at the tube. I enjoy the game, always have and always will. It's part of who Mike Utley was and still is today.
TSN: It has been more than 14 years since you were paralyzed in that game. Where are you at physically?
UTLEY: I'm on an excellent road toward closing a chapter and walking off Ford Field. Am I closer than I was 14 years ago? You betcha. Back in 1989 when I shattered my right leg, I told myself I'd never be carried off the field again. Then I was; I broke a promise to myself, and I want to close that chapter.
