The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has been issuing tenders for sugar on the basis of a set of specifications as well as terms and conditions which preclude the participation of international trading companies, the sources said.

They said the specifications are geared to ensure that only one supplier from the Gulf region is the dominant supplier. The fact that the whiteness specification is 80 Icumsa maximum, serves to ensure that sugars from China, Thailand, India, etc are ineligible for supply, they added.
