Feb. 8--A low-fat diet alone does not significantly reduce the risk of breast cancer, colorectal cancer or heart disease in women over 50, according to surprising new data from a long-running national study of nearly 49,000 women.
The $415 million study is the largest ever to examine the health impacts of fat in the diet. It appears to overturn decades of advice that has led to a flood of low-fat -- but not necessarily nutritious -- products.
