Air cargo volume at Los Angeles International Airport showed robust growth during 1992, according to figures recently released by the Department of Airports.

Statistics indicate that air cargo at LAX during the year reached 1.37 million tons, an increase of 8.5 percent over 1991, according to John J. Driscoll, executive director of the Los Angeles Department of Airports. The figure includes slightly more than 1.2 million tons of freight and nearly 163,000 tons of mail.

"Air cargo tonnage is a figure we watch very closely," said Driscoll. "It is an important indicator of the airport's impact on the economy of Southern California."
