Feb. 6--The Surat Thani Shrimp Association has urged the government to make a formal complaint to the World Trade Organisation over a bond requirement set by the United States.
Aekapoj Yodpinij, the association president, said the so-called continuous bond represented double taxation and was against WTO regulations.
As part of its anti-dumping penalties imposed on Thai shrimp last year, Washington requires US importers to place a bond equivalent to the 5.95 percent penalty duty on shrimp they import from Thailand, based on the previous year's shipments.
