Feb. 4--Business leaders yesterday called for calm on the part of both government leaders and critics over today's protest rally at the Royal Plaza.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is facing his greatest political crisis in years, following widespread criticism over the regulatory handling of the 73-billion-baht sale last month of his stake in Shin Corp to Temasek Holdings.

Government critic Sondhi Limthongkul and dozens of academics have openly called for Mr Thaksin's resignation, which the prime minister has dismissed.
