The Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) has met twice in 2005. At its first meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, a joint meeting with the Council of New Zealand University Librarians (CONZUL), it was agreed to develop guidelines in support of the increasing number of international professional study tours, both inbound and outbound, to simplify planning and encourage members to participate. The international engagement was furthered at the second meeting in Brisbane, when CAUL members were joined by 18 representatives of the Standing Conference of National and University Libraries (SCONUL). This followed a two week tour of the east coast by SCONUL members, and concluded with a stimulating set of presentations to CAUL by SCONUL members, covering such issues as research quality, teaching and learning and Oxford University's Google digitisation project.
