Egat replaces diesel with PTT's gas.
Feb. 3--PTT Plc yesterday signed an agreement with Egat Plc to sell gas worth 72 billion baht to supply the latter's Nam Phong power plant in Khon Kaen for 16 years.
The deal represents a milestone in power development in the Northeast since the natural gas will replace diesel in fuelling the plant and lower the power production cost, according to Energy Minister Viset Choopiban.
As well, the use of indigenous gas will help the country save foreign-currency payments for costly imported oil. Above all, it facilitates development for the region's power and industrial sectors, he said.
