Byline: MURRAY COLEMAN
Eric Fischman is one of MFS Investment's most aggressive growth managers.
And he's finding plenty of good ideas these days.
The 41-year-old Fischman co-manages $3.7 billion MFS Emerging Growth Fund. He's also the sole manager of $1.6 billion Strategic Growth Fund.
Fischman took over as lead manager at Emerging Growth at the start of 2004. At the beginning of this year he became sole manager at Strategic Growth. He has repositioned both to focus on forward earnings.
"I'm looking at the fastest growing areas of the economy," Fischman said. "Then I'm trying to determine what secular trends will drive earnings. That leads me to certain themes with very high potential over the next three to five years."
Last year, Fischman led his bigger charge to an 8.7% gain. That was 3.8% better than the S&P 500. It's up 5.8% this year. Both funds are handily beating their peers and the general market.
