Botox adds wrinkle to earnings
Allergan, perhaps best known for its Botox wrinkle cream, said Q4 earnings rose to 91 cents per share ex items, 2 cents above views. Revenue rose 7% to $595 mil, but sales growth for Botox fell shy of expectations. 2006 earnings are forecast at $3.56-$3.62 per share, excluding stock-option expenses. Shares fell 1.5% to 113.09.
Doubts cloud AstraZeneca outlook
England's second-biggest drug maker said Q4 earnings rose 40% to 77 cents a share, 2 cents over views. Revenue climbed 8% to $6.28 bil, largely due to sales of its ulcer treatment Nexium and anti-psychotic Seroquel. AstraZeneca forecast '06 earnings of $3.40-$3.60 a share, topping views of $3.27. But that outlook includes 45 cents a share tied to the heart drug Toprol-XL. Genetic firms have won a ruling striking down Toprol's patent protection. Shares fell 4.5% to 46.80.
