Feb. 3--LINCOLNTON -- The North Lincoln and East Lincoln High swim teams will compete in the 2A state championship Saturday, but that splash has taken some cash. All North Lincoln swimmers and a majority of East Lincoln swimmers pay to use private facilities because of the lack of public pools. No Lincoln County high school has pool, so North Lincoln uses the three lanes at the Lincoln County YMCA in Lincolnton, and East Lincoln uses the five lanes at FitCare Life Center in Huntersville.
Lincolnton and West Lincoln High Schools do not have swim teams.
The lack of pools is not unique to the county. Gaston teams rent lanes at county YMCAs -- but Gaston swimmers do not have to pay.
