BRISBANE, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has begun informally consulting the community about its planned A$500 million (US$378.6 million) parallel runway.
The project involves building a 3,600m runway two kilometres west of the existing runway, a process that will take about five years to complete following the approval's process.
The BAC is currently undertaking a number of comprehensive technical investigations that will be presented in an environmental impact statement and major development plan.
Project director Cam Spencer said the BAC was keen to share its plans with the Brisbane community.
To this end, the BAC this week will send out more than 330,000 newsletters to householders informing them of the latest developments and asking for input on the planned runway.
The newsletters will outline the project, scheduled to be built between 2012 and 2015, and the assessment process.
