CANBERRA, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations' skilled vacancies index fell by 2.9 per cent in January.
The index released today showed vacancies for professionals were down two per cent, fell one per cent for associate professionals and dropped 3.6 per cent for trades.
The index was 12.6 per cent down on the January 2005 figure and 13.8 per cent lower than the 2005 peak in April.
But skilled vacancies rose for three occupational groups in January.
Printing trades were up by 5.0 per cent, science professionals up 4.3 per cent and building and engineering professionals rose by 1.6 per cent.
