No. 1 computer security company Symantec is mapping out a new world in consumer safety, as it faces a looming threat to its anti-virus home turf from none other than the No. 1 software company, Microsoft.
Symantec is maintaining strength in its core work, as revealed in its
December-quarter earnings report released Tuesday.
But analysts foresee slower growth rates for its industry this year as the market matures and as Microsoft, for the first time, possibly starts to sell a consumer security service with anti-virus and other features.
Microsoft Mum On Plans
Microsoft hasn't revealed most of its security plans. But it has said some of those plans include tighter security measures within Windows Vista, its first major new release of its Windows computer operating software since 2002. And it's long been expected that Microsoft might sell separate security wares.
