Solvay says it has agreed to acquire Mississippi Polymer Technologies (MPT; Bay St. Louis, MS), a startup firm that manufactures high-performance polymers. Terms were not disclosed. The deal includes a commercial plant at Bay St. Louis, as well as approximately 50 employees. MPT launched Parmax, a transparent polymer for use as an alternative to metal in certain applications, in early 2004, Solvay says. The chemistry used to make Parmax "allows for a significant number of variations to be developed and manufactured," Sovay says, but it would not disclose specifics of the chemical process.
