THE contract for transhipment, handling and temporary storage of 28,000 coated line pipes for the Ormen Lange gas field helped Hartlepool Docks to a major growth in volumes last year.
Throughput is thought to have exceeded 1m tonnes in 2005, when volumes are generally between 600,000 tonnes and 700,000 tonnes, says PD Teesport commercial manager Trevor Meredith.
Hartlepool regularly handles imports of timber from the Baltic, talc from Norway and sand, as well as scrap exports. It also handles steel plate and pipe for Corus and general cargoes for the offshore industry.
