LONDON'S Court of Appeal has given leave for an appeal to the House of Lords after workers with pleural plaques due to asbestos exposure lost their right to compensation, writes Sandra Speares.
The appeal court overturned a High Court ruling on a series of test cases. It could have widespread implications for the insurance industry, which has paid out an estimated GBP1.4bn ($2.5bn) in compensation for such cases over the past 20 years.
Pauline Chandler of Manchester-based Pannone ' Partners said she hoped the decision would be appealed to the House of Lords.
