THE port of Marseilles is to enter into negotiations with Boluda group subsidiary Union Naval Barcelona in an effort to conclude a long-term contract which will give the Spanish company full operational control of its number eight and nine drydocks, writes Andrew Spurrier.
UNB was the only company to respond to the port's call for bids for the contract but failed to meet the minimum financial conditions laid down by the port.
As a result, the port has declared the call for bids unsuccessful, but said it is nevertheless ready to enter into negotiations with UNB to try to bring the company's offer closer to its objectives.
It also indicated that it wanted to involve the state, local authorities and unions in its efforts to end chronic heavy loss-making on the port's repair docks.
