Channel collision sends warning to liability insurers.

Yesterday's serious casualty in the English Channel is a sharp reminder to liability insurers that their claims year, due to end on February 20, may harbour nasty late surprises.
Experts in the protection and indemnity field began immediately to weigh up the consequences of the latest incident, although it could be some time before the financial impact or nature of relevant claims emerges.
The 11,290 dwt Marshall Islands-registered chemical tanker Ece, carrying 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid, is entered in North of England P'I Club, and reported to have hull insurance in the German market, while the bulk carrier General Grot-Rowecki is with Assuranceforenigen Gard for P'I.
