A FIRE chief is alleged to have secretly taped other officers - a claim that has led to a top-level investigation.

An officer from brigade headquarters interviewed four officers based in Tameside regarding their performance. Three station commanders and deputy borough commander Steve Swallow were seen.

But one of the station commanders has now sent a formal letter of complaint to Greater Manchester's county fire officer, Barry Dixon, expressing concern that Mr Swallow may have been taped while being interviewed and questioning whether the other three were as well.
