The state yesterday asked the court to convict Col Kizza Besigye for the 1997 rape of his ward Joanita Kyakuwa.

Presiding Justice JB Katutsi meets assessors tomorrow to sum up the case to them.

Besigye's lawyers, however, asked the same court to trash the case, saying it was riddled with lies and was a fabrication to destroy him politically.

Katutsi dismissed defence lawyer David Mpanga's submission of a political motive, saying …
