Senators are calling for an investigation into the government's hybrid rice subsidy program.

In a resolution filed last week, Senator Ramon B. Magsaysay, Jr. sought a probe of alleged mismanagement of the program funds, which included P544 million from the Marcos ill-gotten wealth.

State auditors said the program could not account for more than P55.7 million as of December 2004, the resolution pointed out. Almost a billion pesos was spent under the program that year.
