WASHINGTON, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) opened its Washington office Tuesday as South Korea and the United States prepare to start negotiations on a free-trade agreement.
The KITA Washington Center, a second U.S. office for the association after New York, will represent South Korea's private business sector in bilateral trade and investment relations as well as promote the country's culture.
"The center will be a cornerstone," KITA Chairman Kim Jae-chul said in the opening ceremony. "Come and experience the rich Korean culture, broaden your understanding about our country and the people."
Colin Powell, former U.S. secretary of state, said the center will be able to do exactly that.
"I am confident that as a result of the work of this center, people in Washington D.C. and people in American will come to the center, and leave with a better understanding of what Korea is all about," he said.
