Jan. 26--Angel Sheets was getting a lot of love Wednesday night during a candlelight vigil at Livermore High School in observance of her daughter. More than 100 people came, holding candles, many of them crying.
Of those present, many were hugging and comforting Sheets. "She was my little girl. ... She was beautiful, and she could have been a comedian if she'd wanted to," Sheets said of her daughter Kayla Reed, a 15-year-old Livermore High freshman. A body found in a San Joaquin County canal was confirmed Saturday as Kayla's. She was last seen Dec. 3. On Wednesday, police were still searching for both a suspect and a motive in Kayla's death. She was reported as a runaway Dec. 5. As weeks passed without friends or family hearing from Kayla, investigators asked again for help from the public in finding her. An autopsy performed by the San Joaquin County coroner determined that Kayla had been dead three to five weeks when her body was discovered, indicating she died shortly after she went missing.
