Anyone reading the article "Risky Business" (September 2005) is left with the impression that waterparks are inherently dangerous.
Yet the information you cite to make that claim is extremely unreliable. I am particularly disappointed by statistics you cite from Saferparks.com supporting your statement that "waterparks are faring poorly when it comes to safety. Consider that compared with all amusement park rides ... water slide injuries are the most prevalent." On Saferparks.com's Web site, it clearly states: "The information [from our Web site] does not represent a complete record of ride-related accidents; it cannot be ethically used to compare or contrast the safety of different rides, parks, carnivals or states.... Saferparks has not made any attempt to verify the accuracy or veracity of the reports included in this database."
The Web site even requires visitors to click a button that says: "I have read the cautions on this page ... and ... accept the conditions of use."
Clearly, even Saferparks.com recognizes how erroneous its statistics potentially are. Yet you provide the statistics from ...
