Low premorbid IQ scores in young men appear to be associated with the development of mental disorders, reported Erik Lykke Mortensen of the University of Copenhagen and his associates.

In a Danish study of 3,289 men who had an IQ exam when they appeared before their draft boards, 350 (11%) had a record of at least one psychiatric hospitalization, an average of 4.4 total admissions, and an average of 1.3 diagnoses (Br. J. Psychiatry 2005;187:407-15).
