Three months after the arrival of a new CEO at Egghead Discount Software, the nation's largest software retailer is looking to revamp an advertising and marketing strategy some observers characterize as stale.

Egghead has cut its in-house marketing department by a third and hired EvansGroup to handle some of its advertising and marketing, a company spokesperson said.

Thirteen people in the advertising production group were laid off in early April, said Egghead spokeswoman Megan McKenzie, adding that three of them now work for EvansGroup.
