Jan. 18--STAFFORD -- Township officials estimate it will cost $400,000 to rebuild Planet Playground, located behind the Ocean Acres Elementary School.
Township Administrator Paul J. Shives said the price includes equipment and labor costs to replace equipment torn down earlier this year when municipal officials discovered the wood used for the playground was treated with chromated copper arsenate, a carcinogen.
Thousands of volunteers spent five days constructing the playground in October 1999. The decision to dismantle the equipment and remove surrounding soil was made by township officials in June.
