Winnie Byanyima, the wife of opposition leader Kizza Besigye, has reacted strongly to President Yoweri Museveni's recent call for her to be investigated and punished for alleging that he had bribed two judges involved with her husband's court cases.

"The president's apparent outrage is more amusing than convincing," Ms Byanyima, who called Daily Monitor from Addis Ababa, said yesterday.

She also questioned Mr Museveni's standards of honesty and accountability, and said she was "immune" to his "threats of punishment".
