The government's Regional Co-ordination Unit (RCU) has taken a step closer to its efficiency obligations under the Gershon review by consolidating 11 websites on to a single platform, using Mediasurface's Morello content management product.
The RCU, part of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, works with government offices in nine different English regions, such as the North East and the West Midlands. Until recently, each of those offices was maintaining its own website.
"There was no consistency in the means of updating those websites," said Norman Annett, account manager at Mediasurface. "So there was no commonality in terms of how that information was managed, there was no consistent brand and they couldn't share content."
To improve efficiency, the RCU decided to adopt the same content management system across the nine regional sites, its own site and a national entry site (www.gos.gov.uk).
