Jan. 16--It's one of black comedian Chris Rock's trademark jokes -- if you find yourself on a street named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in America, it can only mean one thing: Run. More than 730 places around the country have a street named after the late civil rights leader, and many are sectioned off in predominantly black and often poor parts of town. Charlotte is the latest to grapple with what street named King would mean: whether to have one -- and if so, what connotation it would bring. Charlotte City Council member James Mitchell says he wanted to buck the national trend when he recently proposed that Stonewall Street in uptown, along with a portion of Independence Boulevard, be renamed for King. "Give me something that's visible. Don't give me a cul-de-sac," Mitchell said. City Council voted last week to study more options.…
