You have already read, in these very pages, about many of the big debuts that rolled onto show stands at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show: Toyota Yaris sedan, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Pontiac Solstice GXP and even the little Chevy Aveo. But there was more, yes, more to see at the L.A. Convention Center's first auto show of 2006.
That's right, this year there will be two L.A. shows, since the organizers finally managed to book a slot a little earlier in the year that both steps out of the shadow of the monster Detroit show and still takes advantage of California's benign winter weather.
So have a look at these debuts, but be sure to come back in November for the second Los Angeles auto show of 2006 (public days are Dec. 1-10).
* Saleen Sport Truck S331
With Ford selling about 18 bazillion F-Series trucks each year, it's a wonder Saleen didn't get into the truck business sooner.
"We did 30 trucks in the late-'80s as part of our race program,'' Steve Saleen said, adding its race program won the SCCA truck series in 1992. "So I am a little familiar with 'em.''
The S331 will initially be available in the Ford F-Series Super Cab body style, powered by your choice of the three-valve sohc, 5.4-liter 325-hp normally aspirated V8 or the 450-hp supercharged version. Both will feature Saleen's Racecraft suspension.
