If you don't like endless repeats by the same old winners in racing season after season, 2005 was your year.
Fernando Alonso knocked Michael Schumacher off the F1 pedestal, Tony Stewart unseated Kurt Busch in NASCAR, and Dan Wheldon took the IRL crown from Tony Kanaan, nabbing the Indy 500 along the way. Only Champ Car's Sebastien Bourdais repeated.
So 2005 was a shake-up. But racing is about more than who won what. It is a colorful, sometimes emotional sport, full of colorful, emotional characters. Here's a photographic look back at last year's vivid and vibrant racing season. Enjoy.
