The Associated Press reports police stopped a van after a hit-and-run crash on Kentucky's Mountain Parkway. They found a seven-year-old boy sitting on his father's lap, steering while his "semiconscious'' dad worked the pedals. "He said he was en route to Florida, and his son was going to get him there,'' said a Clark County sheriff's deputy. The man was arrested on multiple charges.

WIN HELMET, SEE DAYTONA

AW's NASCAR correspondent Al Pearce has teamed with Langley Speedway and RaceRap.com to raise money for the Victory Junction Gang Camp charity. They will auction off a new Simpson helmet autographed by all 23 living winners of the Daytona 500, including A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti. The high bidder also receives two tickets to this year's Daytona 500, and the bid qualifies as a tax-deductible donation to the camp. Contact Al at apearce@crain.com to place your bid by Jan. 31.
