Even people who don't know much about racing seem to know Andy Granatelli, and people who do know about racing worship the man. So for the latter group, the evening of Nov. 10, 2005, at the Petersen Automotive Museum's tribute to Mr. 500 must have been like church.
Great drivers from Danny Sullivan to Parnelli Jones sang his praises and talked about those famous victory-circle kisses.
"I cannot imagine getting a victory kiss from Roger Penske,'' mused Sullivan.
Jones blamed his Indy loss, after leading up until the end in the STP Turbine car, on an attempt to avoid those very smackers.
"I just pulled the car in, I didn't want them big lips on me,'' Jones said, though he later admitted he may have misjudged.
