THE PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD is racing to control a spill of over 162,000 liters of oil that seeped out of a National Power Corp. barge that ran aground along with a Napocor tanker in Semirara, Antique, on Dec. 19 last year.
With some 2,480 sacks of oil-contaminated debris already collected in a three-week period, PCG commandant Vice Admiral Arthur Gosingan directed Coast Guard personnel to intensify the cleanup operations.
