Jan. 10--As part of a restructuring drive to promote Thai businesses overseas and generate more foreign currency, the Foreign Trade Department is becoming more proactive and aims to be a mentor to Thai state enterprises and private companies.

"The department's new role would, in particular, engage more in 'babysitting' Thai state enterprises and the private sector members who do businesses overseas, with an aim to upgrade the country's trading system to become more international and equipped with technological innovations," said Rachane Potjanasuntorn, the department's director-general.
