Jan. 10--The Government Housing Bank, the only bank still offering fixed-rate mortgages, says consumers should consider its five- and 10-year offerings as the most cost-effective in the industry.
"Commercial banks have already cancelled their fixed-rate mortgages but we still are maintaining ours," said bank president Khan Prachuabmoh.
Other banks have been moving to scrap fixed-rate plans in favour of floating-rate mortgages in light of rising market interest rates.
