Jan. 6--Students and parents interested in getting a leg up on college can learn more about Catawba County's early college high school, Challenger High, at information sessions this month. The school is on the Catawba Valley Community College campus, where its students take high school and college classes. In as little as four years, they earn a high school diploma and an associate's degree -- for free. Because of Challenger's distinct schedule and curriculum, only eighth-graders can apply.
