Thrust of new-found confidence gives global airline industry life-saving lift Rebound being driven by economic growth and strong price competition Public Policy Correspondent CONFIDENCE in the global aviation industry is beginning to bounce back and a number of airlines are positioning themselves by acquiring new aircraft and opening new routes to get a share of the burgeoning passenger and cargo markets.

Airline industry body the International Air Transport Association (Iata) predicts an 8% increase in passenger traffic for the year ended December 2005 and a further 5,6% for this year.
