Aircraft boost Nov. factory orders
Factory orders rose 2.5% in the month on a 134.3% surge in new orders for nondefense aircraft and parts. That offset weakness in auto, defense and machinery orders. Ex transportation, orders were flat. Nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft, which reflect business spending, fell 2.1%.
Poll: consumer confidence rising
The ABC/Washington Post consumer comfort index rose for a ninth week to -9 from -10 in the week ended Jan. 1. Some 40% of consumers said they had a positive view of the national economy, up one percentage point from the prior week. Those with a positive view of their personal finances slipped a percentage point to 58%.
EU inflation could spur rate hikes
