Well-regarded Aetna CEO retires
The leading U.S. health insurer named President Ronald Williams to succeed John Rowe as CEO next month. Rowe, a physician who became CEO of Aetna in Dec. '00, is credited with turning the once financially troubled insurer into one of the more profitable ones in its industry. Aetna shares more than quadrupled under his tenure as he trimmed the work force, sold off unprofitable units and slashed expenses. Shares rose 0.5% to 94.42.
