MORRISON: This is the best Jetta I've driven, top to bottom, and I say that as someone who owned a Jetta IV. The GLI, with the spectacular 2.0-liter FSI turbo engine, is an entirely different car compared to the standard Jetta with the underwhelming inline-five. The uprated suspension, wheels/tires and brakes make the GLI a great choice for driving enthusiasts: There's much more grip and the balance feels improved, too. It still understeers, of course, but the cornering limit is much higher. The electronic steering feels good in your hands, as does the chunky and cool-looking race car-like steering wheel. I'd like VW to shorten the six-speed manual gearbox's throws, but banging through this transmission feels good.
The entire interior looks great, so it is a shame I don't care at all for the exterior. ...
